CIQ Agency

The Cultural Industries Quarter Agency aims to maximise the impact of the CIQ in Sheffield and the creative industries across South Yorkshire by creating conditions for growth. Their role in the partnership was to administer the project and support partners in the delivery of sector-specific training, capacity-building, showcasing, the testing of new pathways into employment, new business support measures and transnational exchanges.

Delivery Partners:

SHIFT delivers media training using creativity to harness attention into vocationally rewarding areas. For The Last Mile they enhanced their Entry2Employment programme for young people and their Film Council First Light production scheme, providing work placements and a new Special Effects Make Up course. They also launched a new 16+ programme.

In 2007 they planned to revive the popular multicultural festival, Music in the Sun. Its organisation, marketing and staging was to provide Last Mile beneficiaries with valuable training and work placement opportunities. They offer specialist support in Spray Can Art, Event Management, DJ Skills, Graphic Design, Photography and more.

Inspiral deliver business support to the creative and digital sectors. They supported the start-up of 30 new businesses for The Last Mile, providing bespoke provision for talented, budding entrepreneurs and freelancers. The project offered Inspiral the opportunity to support both social enterprise and commercial business and to develop their marketing techniques to reach more women and people from black and minority ethnic backgrounds.

Higher Rhythm Recording Studio is a non-profit community organisation in Doncaster providing training and accredited learning in music and recording technology. Their new Creative Careers Programme was developed for The Last Mile offering specialisms in the roles of DJ, Producer, Creative Industries Tutor, Live Sound Engineer, Studio Sound Engineer and Self-employed in the creative industries - all supported by a specially appointed Creative Careers Mentor. Beneficiaries completed two NOCN units in Music Technology.

Harmony Training is a new social enterprise in Sheffield aiming to raise the profile and participation of women working in the South Yorkshire music industry. For The Last Mile, they delivered two Training the Trainers courses for women in music technology and offered bespoke training and support packages. They created NOW (Network of Women), a network for women in the cultural industries in South Yorkshire, and are delivering Music Workshops across the region.

The Drum Community Media Centre provides radio training, Internet access and careers spring-boarding and hosts Sheffield Live! the new, full-time FM community radio station. Their Last Mile training was built around the opportunities the licence brings and for the first time, through The Last Mile, beneficiaries could gain NOCN Level 3 qualifications in Journalism, Radio Production, Live Radio Production and more.
